Surf fishing in the off-season

This is one of our favorite images in the 2026 Down The Shore Calendar. It is evocative, moody, beautiful. The scene captures the off-season so well — the hazy sky with its blue-gray and soft yellow, the clean, tide-washed sand, the attachment of these surf fishermen to the sea. Photographer Elizabeth Anne Laird's framing pulls you right in, you find yourself leaning in with the fisherman in the foreground, wanting to be there. It is peaceful, you can be alone with your thoughts — or in the company of other souls who find this time of year at the shore to be the best.
