Dubbed the ''Chairman of the Boards'' by the Trenton Times, the authors ''have turned their love of the seashore and quest for fitness into a second career of sorts as boardwalk chroniclers,'' observed the New York Times. DICK HANDSCHUCH was born in New York City and summered in Seaside Park since 1935. A Seaside Park lifeguard, he became Captain of the guards at Island Beach State Park and then became Supervisor of Water Safety for the State of New Jersey. A Toms River, NJ resident since 1961, he taught in the Brick Township schools from then until his retirement in 1997, when he moved to Seaside Park where he and his wife Carol currently reside. SAL MARINO, a retired Brick Township, NJ teacher, was always interested in the Jersey Shore beaches, boardwalks and the history of the Shore. He began summering in Keansburg in 1941, then in 1946 in Brick Township, moving there year-round in 1959 after being discharged from the service. Born in North Bergen, New Jersey, he started teaching in Brick in 1963 and retired in 1994. He and his wife Barbara live in the Lovelandtown section of Point Pleasant.
