Published to great acclaim from both readers and reviewers, Under a Gull’s Wing is the first contemporary collection of poems and photographs about the Jersey Shore. The anthology takes readers on an evocative trip “down the shore,” from the tip of Sandy Hook to Victorian Cape May and explores quintessential shore motifs, including boardwalks and beaches, love and loss, legends, lore, and famous landmarks.

Contributors include some of the nation’s best known poets — Walt Whitman, John Ciardi, U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, A. R. Ammons, and Maxine Kumin, among others.

A mix of celebration, history, and some lament, Under a Gull’s Wing presents all of the Shore: from the natural beauty of Island Beach and the Forsythe Refuge to familiar and timeless beach towns as well as the changes to Asbury Park and Atlantic City. Even such quirky history as Lucy the Margate Elephant and the High-Diving Horse of Atlantic City’s old Steel Pier are remembered. This hardcover also includes more than two dozen artistic black & white photographs by some of the state’s best photographers.

The Jersey Shore is one of the nation’s most renowned and beloved regions and has inspired some of the nation’s best poets. This book is a worthy tribute to both.

What is a hurt book?

When we receive books returned from stores and distributors that have been slightly scuffed, or with dings or sun-faded covers, we offer them at a big discount. We call them "hurt," but other than cosmetic damage, these are perfectly good books — almost always clean and unmarked inside. Available 1st-come-1st-served; best condition books are shipped first.

Our remaining copies of this book have some minor dings, some fading and ink smudges on the covers, but are clean inside.
